Our Story

Born from a father's hands.

Antonio's last pair.

The Legacy

Antonio's last pair.

In a small village outside Macerata, in the Marche hills of Italy, a young Antonio Santovello learned to make shoes the way his uncles had — with a single piece of leather, a wooden last, and a quiet patience that took years to teach.

For a long time he kept a small workshop on a side street, and a small label that bore his name. It was loved by the people who knew where to find it. But love alone could not keep the lights on. The doors closed quietly one winter, and Antonio carried his tools home in a single wooden box.

His son, Leonardo, grew up watching him work — the way his father pinched a vamp into place, the way he ran a finger along a stitch to feel it before he saw it. When Antonio passed, that box of tools sat in the corner of the kitchen for a long time. Santovello is what came of opening it again.

A shoe that disappears on the foot.

Design

A shoe that disappears on the foot.

We design the way Antonio did — slowly, and from the foot up. Every Santovello loafer begins on a hand-shaped last, refined over months until the silhouette reads quiet from across a room and personal up close.

The upper is cut from a single piece of Italian suede, so the shoe softens into the wearer instead of stretching against the seams. The sole is light, flexible, finished by hand. The lining is unstructured on purpose — we want a shoe that disappears on the foot, not one that announces itself.

Nothing is over-engineered. Nothing is decorative. The point is the wearing of it.
